Darin has also successfully defended clientele in trial matters before the Provincial and Supreme Court of British Columbia.

During the course of his law school studies, Darin was heavily involved in the University of Alberta’s Student Legal Services as a caseworker and became the project coordinator for the SLS criminal law program where he mentored other law students in criminal defense work. Thereafter, he sat as a member of the Board and was elected Chair of the Board of Directors where he served for a number of years.

Darin articled to Brian Beresh, Q.C., and after completing his articles, joined Alexander Pringle, Q.C. at Pringle and Associates. There, Darin continued to develop broad experience in defending clients charged with serious criminal offences, including murder, trafficking in controlled substances, aggravated assault, and sexual assault. He also regularly defends clients charged with impaired driving and regulatory offences, such as those found in the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.

Early in his practice, Darin seized an opportunity to sharpen his skills and gain a more diverse knowledge of the criminal law as an ad hoc Crown Prosecutor with Alberta Justice. He has been hired by Alberta justice to conduct prosecutions when local Crown prosecutors are in a position of conflict or are unable to prosecute certain matters. In this role, Darin acquired unique knowledge and insight into the approach of the Prosecution which continues to serve his clients well.

Given his international education, Darin also effectively represents clientele facing immigration and extradition proceedings, many of which have involved sensitive negotiations with Federal Crown Prosecutors in Canada, as well as District Attorneys and Federal Prosecutors in the United States.

In 2012, along with Daniel J. Song and Anna Konye, Mr. Sprake established the firm of Sprake Song & Konye, with offices in both Edmonton and Vancouver. While practicing across Western Canada Mr. Sprake expanded his practice to assist professionals from varying practice areas that are subject to complaints or investigations with disciplinary bodies including the Law Society of Alberta, The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and many others.

Darin prides himself on efficacy and ethics while representing his clients. Success can often, depend on the lawyers’ reputation with the Crown and Court. Mr. Sprake continues to receive accolades from the Court including a recent letter of commendation from a Justice of the Queen’s Bench of Alberta, wherein the Court wrote, “Courts depends on the high professional standards of their officers. Your efforts…demonstrate that this Court is very well served in that regard.”

Darin would be pleased to put his skill, knowledge, and reputation to work for you, whether you face criminal, regulatory, or disciplinary prosecutions.
